Victoria Pearson began her career as a resin artist during the beginning of the pandemic in April of 2020. She had been following several artists working in the same medium before she tried her hand at creating her first pieces - small beaches inside of a coconut bowl.

She soon discovered she had a passion for the medium and couldn’t stop creating the little seaside beachscapes. But this left her with a problem - bowls for days and no plan on what to do with them.

Around this same time the Vancouver Aquarium was beginning to struggle with a potential closure due to the pandemic. This would have been a devastation and, thus, sparked an idea. She sold the art bowls, mostly locally, and donated 100% of the proceeds to the Vancouver Aquarium in hopes that it might help them stay open and continue to support the wildlife living there. It was a huge success resulting in a large amount being donated to the Vancouver Aquarium! After the campaign she was reached out to by a few followers asking to create more resin art pieces, not just as coconut bowls but platters, wall art, furniture, etc. Slowly on the collection grew and Coconuts n Waves found its place in the resin art world!

Because there’s nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it is sent away.

PRODUCTS

  • MAS EPOXY

Mas Table Top Epoxy has become my go-to when choosing a resin! There are many different products out there for two part epoxy, and I definitely recommend finding one that works for you, but if you’re like me and enjoy working with a resin that is slightly thicker this is the product for you! You can order it straight from their site if you live in the US or, where I order, if you’re in Canada you can get it from Bear Woods Supply! Links below!

Canada: BUY MAS TABLE TOP EPOXY

USA: BUY MAS TABLE TOP EPOXY

  • 3D CRETE

3D Crete by Counter Culture DIY is one of my all time favourite products to use when creating the perfect island or beach scene. This white artists concrete is made with a super fine powder giving it a smooth textured finish that mimics the look of a tropical white sand beach perfectly!

USA & Canada: BUY 3D CRETE

  • THE ROCKS

Once I’ve laid the sand down on a given beach piece the next step is usually to create some rocks or cliff faces! For this I use, quite litterally, just a standard quick set concrete I get at my local hardware store! It can be tricky to use, as it does set quite quickly, but you can control the smoothness of your rocks and cliffs depending on the amount of water you add to the product.

    Canada: BUY QUICK SET CONCRETE

  • PAINT

To tint my resin I use a combination of colours from my local arts and crafts store! These cheap acrylic paints are usually around $2-$3 per tube and come in a wide variety of colours. You need very little paint when tinting resin with acrylic, so a single tube will go a long way!

    Canada: BUY FOLKART PAINT
